The Challenge

Technology is improving fast. Customers are expecting more. Organizations can no longer ignore new digital products and services. As one of the most prominent Belgian Enterprises in the Banking and Financial industry for more than 25 years, Belfius strives to improve its products and services day-in-day-out.
Given its rich history, this is a daunting endeavor. Different technological systems have been implemented throughout the years, imposing an even greater challenge to tackle. Kevin Van Passel, IT TeamLeader at Belfius, explains: “Our main challenge is to think and remain future-proof, given our current technology stack that is still crucial in day-to-day operations.”
It was clear for Belfius that this digital transformation needed a new way of thinking. New skills and new understandings. “We have a very diverse set of employees, which gives a unique and thought-provoking dynamic. We have our Junior profiles packed with new and fresh ideas and techniques. Yet, we also have people working at Belfius since the beginning, with tons of in-company experience”, Sandrine Murrath, IT Program Manager of the Belfius Insurance Development Centers, clarifies. “We were looking for a way to align all those people with a future-proof mindset and knowledge of modern methodologies.”

The Collaboration

This was the starting for Belfius to discover what’s available in the market. “We contacted different providers, but they were all either too theoretical or too practical. Then we met The Master Channel, which offers this perfect balance between theory and practice”, reveals Kevin.
Together with The Master Channel, a challenging learning track was created. Jacqueline, Senior Functional Analyst, is part of Belfius’s functional analysis community. “The cross-functional teams are made up of a mix of junior and senior functional analysts, as well as developers. The whole mix participated in the track. Each team has its focus and needs. Together with Kevin, the track was fully tailored to the needs of our teams”, explains Jacqueline.
“Being able to study the basics through e-learning on The Master Channel is perfect. Everyone can do this at their own pace and practice with the tests and exams until they fully master it. Even when you have little time or little concentration, the bite-sized nuggets always teach you something new”, mentions Joost Decoene, Technical Architect at Belfius.

The Result

I’m grateful for the new knowledge I can add to my analysis toolbox. I feel more confident when starting a new project from scratch. Thanks to The Master Channel. I’m eager to apply it in practice. The first chance I get, I will implement what I have learned.

Kevin notices their efforts paying off: “I can see that what they learned on process modeling is ingrained in their analysis and discussions. There are more initiatives than ever where they are applying the Business Process Modeling and Notation in practice. It creates a common language between the various teams. Experiencing these phenomenal results with our Functional Analysts, we are looking to implement similar training for our Business Analysts”.
Jacqueline continues: “I’m grateful for the new knowledge I can add to my analysis toolbox. I feel more confident when starting a new project from scratch. Thanks to The Master Channel. I’m eager to apply it in practice. The first chance I get, I will implement what I have learned”.
