Leveraging e-learning to overcome COVID 19-challenges
Professional Solution Analyst
The COVID-19 pandemic forced Colruyt Group to cancel all planned classroom training. Finding a high-quality e-learning alternative was pivotal to replace their (full time) 3-week classroom training program for newly joined Solution Analysts. They ask themselves: “Why would we develop our own digital courses when outside companies are offering qualitative solutions that fit our needs?” This urgent need was the starting point of a successful collaboration between Colruyt Group and The Master Channel.
Each year, Colruyt Group trains about 70 Solution Analysts. Based on the needs identified in an interview, a training program is created for every recently joined Solution Analyst. Hence, everyone starts with at least the same base skillset when starting their career at Colruyt Group.
The Business Analysis Foundations course kicks off the (part-time) 5-week digital track. “This course provides a step-by-step framework for our Solution Analysts. It covers a lot of tools and techniques that they will apply in their job as Solution Analyst, no matter in which department they will be working.”, explains Nicole Roemer, Solution Analyst and Trainer at Colruyt Group.
Next, the Solution Analysts set out to learn everything about information modeling with the Fundamentals of Data Modeling course. “I can see my colleagues using the data skills they picked up in that course daily. And everyone can learn at their own pace, which is great!” reveals Marieke Geuens, Trainee Solution Analyst at Colruyt Group.
Trainee Solution Analyst
Marieke applies her newfound knowledge daily. Here’s what she learned: “As an analyst, we must be careful not to fall into the solutions trap: we need to understand the problem thoroughly before even thinking about solutions. It’s dangerous to start developing a (software) solution without understanding the problem properly. A valuable mindset I developed during the Business Analysis Foundations course.”
The Master Channel plays a crucial role in the training of more experienced analysts as well. The practical applicability of the courses is a key contributor. They are steeped in practical knowledge thanks to tons of examples and case studies. Thomas Govaert, Professional Solution Analyst at Colruyt Group, approves: “The courses have a clear-cut structure and contain valuable knowledge that is immediately applicable. Every analyst at Colruyt Group can benefit from the courses of the Master Channel to improve her or his skillset and methodology.”
